ACSDSD participates in 8th HLBD Dialogue on ASEAN–UN Complementarities

The ASEAN Centre for Sustainable Development Studies and Dialogue (ACSDSD) participated in the 8th High-Level Brainstorming Dialogue on Enhancing Complementarities between the ASEAN Community Vision 2025 and the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (HLBD), held in Bangkok, Thailand from 31 October to 1 November 2024,

ACSDSD was represented by H.E. Mr. Chirachai Punkrasin, Executive Director, and Dr. Anthony Pramualratana, Deputy Executive Director, who also served as a moderator in one of the sessions.

Co-organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), and the ASEAN Secretariat, the Dialogue brought together ASEAN Member States, Timor-Leste, and ASEAN External Partners to advance cooperation on sustainable development priorities under both ASEAN and UN frameworks.

ASEAN Secretariat emphasized the need to mainstream social welfare and development across ASEAN policy areas. With climate change posing an urgent and disproportionate threat to women and family well-being in Southeast Asia, the Dialogue underscored the importance of inclusive, cross-sectoral collaboration, particularly in the domains of care, education, ageing populations, and disaster risk reduction.

The Dialogue served as a vital platform to explore strategies for aligning regional and global development goals. Key topics included green finance, climate resilience, digital transformation, energy transition, and the promotion of partnerships and knowledge-sharing networks. Participants highlighted the role of integrated policymaking and people-centered approaches in delivering sustainable and inclusive outcomes for the ASEAN Community beyond 2025.
