UNGA 77 Side Event on ” Regional Pathways to the Global Goals : ASEAN’s Approach towards SGDs Implementation and Sustainable post COVID 19 Recovery” on 22 September 2022 at the Permanent Mission of Thailand to the United Nations in New York.

Thailand, as ASEAN Coordinator on Sustainable Development Cooperation and the ASEAN Centre for Sustainable Development Studies and Dialogue (ACSDSD) co – organised a UNGA 77 Side Event on ” Regional Pathways to the Global Goals : ASEAN’s Approach towards SDGs Implementation and Sustainable post COVID 19 Recovery” on 22 September 2022 at the Permanent Mission of Thailand to the United Nations in New York.

This event was composed of a High – Level Segment with remarks by H.E. Don Pramudwinai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Senator the Hon. Penny Wong, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Australia, H.E. Dato Lim Jock Hoi, Secretary General of ASEAN and a pre-recorded message from Mr. Achim Steiner, UNDP Administrator. This was followed by a panel discussion with presentations by Mr. Tri Tharyat, Deputy Minister for Multilateral Cooperation of Indonesia, Ms. Belen Martinez Carbonell, Managing Director for Global Agenda and Multilateral Relations, European External Action Service, Mr. Lucas Tavarus, Senior Liaison Officer, FAO Liaison Office with the UN and Ms. Elizabeth Yee, Executive Vice President, Program Strategy, The Rockefeller Foundation.

The event provided participants with the opportunity to share experience and exchange ideas on policy formulation and implementation in pursuit of the SDGs, and on fostering partnership for sustainable development. Participants acknowledged that the COVID 19 pandemic had affected the progress towards the SDGs and recognised the need for all stakeholders to accelerate the implementation of the SDGs at the national and regional level.

ACAI to join ACSDSD’s ASEAN Networking Symposium 2026

On 10 March 2026, ACSDSD Deputy Executive Director Dr. Anthony Pramualratana and ACSDSD Communications Officer Ms. Pakjira Numchaisombut met with Dr. Somsak Akksilp, Executive Director of the ASEAN Centre for Active Ageing and Innovation (ACAI), to pave the way for collaboration ahead of the ASEAN Networking Symposium 2026. Dr. Anthony highlighted two key outcome of the symposium: the need for synergy across ASEAN’s development pillars and the promotion of best practices in ASEAN Centres collaboration. He also invited ACAI to participate in the symposium to discover synergies among ASEAN Centres. Both institutions agreed to integrate a people-to-people approach into ASEAN’s sustainable development agenda, and ACAI confirmed its participation, marking a step toward inclusive, people-centered sustainability across the region.
