On 23 February 2026, Thailand, as the ASEAN Coordinator on Sustainable Development Cooperation, together with the United Kingdom (UK), co-organised the ASEAN-UK Dialogue on Sustainability at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Bangkok. The event, attended by more than 80 representatives from ASEAN Member States, the UK, and UN ESCAP and other organisations related to the issue of sustainability, commenced with the opening remarks by H.E. Mr. Chettaphan Maksamphan, Deputy Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, together with SOM Leader of the UK and Ambassador of Vietnam to Thailand in capacity of Country Coordinator for ASEAN-UK Relations. After the discussion, participants also joined the reception with the toast remarks by H.E. Mr. Vijavat Isarabhakdi, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, and the Ambassadors of the UK and Viet Nam to Thailand.

H.E. Mrs. Phasporn Sangasubana, Executive Director of the ASEAN Centre for Sustainable Development Studies and Dialogue (ACSDSD), moderated the panel discussion on ASEAN-UK Cooperation and the SDGs. During the session, ASEAN Member States outlined priority areas where ASEAN’s development vision could align with UK expertise to promote practical, forward-looking collaboration and accelerate sustainable development across the region.

The ASEAN-UK Dialogue on Sustainability, recognised as one of the activities marking the 5th anniversary of the ASEAN-UK relations, has been initiated by Thailand as a platform for exchanges of views on policies and ideas on ways to promote cooperation between ASEAN and the UK on sustainability issues. It is also the associated event of the 13th Asia-Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development (APFSD). The Dialogue discussed key areas, including green economy and finance, public health, education, and gender equality, which will contribute as guidelines for further strengthening ASEAN–UK cooperation under the upcoming formulation of a new ASEAN–UK Plan of Action 2027-2031 and onwards.
