From linear to circular: EU, ASEAN inaugurate Stakeholder Platform Secretariat to boost region’s circular economy

BANGKOK, 15 September 2022 – The European Union (EU) and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) inaugurated today the ASEAN Circular Economy (CE) Stakeholder Platform Secretariat in Bangkok, Thailand. It will support the ASEAN region to achieve sustainable consumption and production and accelerate a transition to a circular economy.

Organised by the secretariat’s host institution, the ASEAN Centre for Sustainable Development Studies and Dialogue (ACSDSD), College of Management, Mahidol University (CMMU), together with the ASEAN Secretariat and the Delegation of the European Union to ASEAN, the inauguration was attended by representatives from the public and private sectors, civil society and international organisations. This milestone event happened after a two-day strategic scoping workshop to operationalise the CE stakeholder platform.

ACAI to join ACSDSD’s ASEAN Networking Symposium 2026

On 10 March 2026, ACSDSD Deputy Executive Director Dr. Anthony Pramualratana and ACSDSD Communications Officer Ms. Pakjira Numchaisombut met with Dr. Somsak Akksilp, Executive Director of the ASEAN Centre for Active Ageing and Innovation (ACAI), to pave the way for collaboration ahead of the ASEAN Networking Symposium 2026. Dr. Anthony highlighted two key outcome of the symposium: the need for synergy across ASEAN’s development pillars and the promotion of best practices in ASEAN Centres collaboration. He also invited ACAI to participate in the symposium to discover synergies among ASEAN Centres. Both institutions agreed to integrate a people-to-people approach into ASEAN’s sustainable development agenda, and ACAI confirmed its participation, marking a step toward inclusive, people-centered sustainability across the region.
