People-centered climate action in ASEAN

On 31 July 2025, the ASEAN Centre for Sustainable Development Studies and Dialogue (ACSDSD), had a courtesy meeting with Ms. Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana, Executive Secretary of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) to discuss cooperation for sustainable development with broader inclusion for local communities. 👨🏻‍👩🏻‍👦🏻‍👦🏻♻️



In alignment with UN ESCAP’s Green and Blue Economy agenda, ACSDSD Executive Director H.E. Phasporn Sangasubana stressed the importance of people-centered approaches in driving the region’s transition to green innovation and sustainable finance. 👨🏻‍👩🏻‍👦🏻‍👦🏻🎯

♻️Key priorities including green finance, climate resilience, climate funds, energy transition, and regional partnerships, require stronger engagement with local communities. ACSDSD aims to strengthen this engagement through initiatives like the Net Zero practices and policy and education for sustainable development, developed in collaboration with CMMU.



While, Deputy Executive Director Dr. Anthony Pramualratana emphasised the value of ASEAN wisdom and the Bio-Circular-Green (BCG) Economy in localising policy implementation.

Ms. Alisjahbana welcomed the dialogue and highlighted ESCAP’s focus on ethical AI governance and green economy. ACSDSD looks forward to contributing to the upcoming 8th HLBD at UN ESCAP this 21-22 August 2025.
